The meaning
“Harmony, agreement”
How it got the name
The town spent decades in a vicious land fight between Massachusetts and New Hampshire claimants. When the dispute finally settled in 1765, the town was renamed Concord — 'harmony' — as a deliberate declaration that the argument was over. It had been Rumford, and before that Penacook.
