How it got the name
In 1950 the host of the NBC radio program Truth or Consequences offered to broadcast the show's tenth-anniversary episode from any town willing to rename itself after it. Hot Springs, New Mexico, voted yes — and has voted to keep the name in four subsequent referendums. The host returned every year for fifty years.
